At this meeting, held at Mr Boag´s request, the following matters were discussed, as suggested by the Party representing the EC Delegation to Ukraine: the future of Ukraine/EU relations, extension of co-operation between the European Parliament and The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, within the framework of the Ukraine/EU Parliamentary partnership; the prospects of an approximation of Ukrainian legislation to that of the EU; and ratification of the Protocol on Ukraine´s accession to the WTO.
The Parties exchanged information and their visions on a number of matters of mutual interest.
Borys Tarasiuk advised his guest of his latest meetings with the influential European Parliament members.
Mr Boag passed on information resulting from his discussions with the Ukrainian Government concerning the preparation of a new enhanced Ukraine/EU Agreement, noting the interest of the EC Delegation to Ukraine in its Euro-integration prospects, the setting up of Euro- integration structures within The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, relevant contacts with the Committee leaders of the Ukrainian Parliament, and Ukraine´s entry into the WTO.
The European Integration Committee Chairman advised Mr Tindall Boag on these matters, outlined the various areas dealt with by his Committee, in view of its recently modified remit, and expressed his hopes of possible assistance by the EC Delegation to Ukraine in its Euro-integration aspirations.
